Many of us know that the steps we take after a car accident are crucial. You should always prioritize your health and safety by calling 9-1-1 and reporting the incident so police and medical responders can arrive at the scene.
In the shock and chaos of a car crash, many people fail to take photos of the scene or ask someone else to do so. But, this step is much more important than you may realize. In fact, taking plenty of pictures following a car accident can be an essential piece of evidence used to pursue compensation for your injuries.
How Can Photos Can My Claim?
Photos from the scene of the accident can be used to show the extent of the accident, any contributing factors that may have caused it, and the damages that any victims suffered as a result.
The human memory can be foggy, especially after a sudden or traumatic event like a car wreck. Additionally, many people can witness the same accident yet still describe it differently or simply remember different aspects of the incident, even though it’s the same one witnessed by everyone.
You can think of photos as an irrefutable piece of evidence that will show evidence that cannot be argued, including the extent of property damage, vehicle damage, and posted traffic or street signs that were present at the time of the accident.
What Pictures Should I Take?
If you are physically able to take photos yourself, you can do so with almost any modern cellphone. If you are injured and unable to walk around or you are being transported to the hospital, make sure to ask someone to take many photos of the accident scene.
There is so much thing as too many photos, so make sure to document everything about the crash and around it, including:
- Damage to all vehicles involved
- Street signs showing the location of the accident
- Visible injuries to the other driver
- Any traffic signs posted nearby
- Road conditions or other debris
- Skid marks on the road or other visible signs of the crash
Helping You Build a Solid Claim
Even if you have all the right evidence needed for your claim, including diverse photos of the accident, gathering all those evidence and presenting it to the insurance company requires someone who is experienced building solid claims and negotiating with insurance adjusters.
