The Odierno Law Firm & O2 Foundation proudly presents an annual scholarship, The Brianna Lieneck Memorial Scholarship, that celebrates the enduring spirit and legacy of an extraordinary young girl, Brianna Lieneck.
In 2005, at just 11 years old, Brianna tragically lost her life in a boating accident. Yet, her memory sparked meaningful change, inspiring the passage of Brianna’s Law, which now requires all power boat operators in New York State to complete a comprehensive eight-hour boating safety course. Brianna’s legacy continues to save countless lives.
Brianna was known for her vibrant personality, compassion, and charisma. She was an exceptional athlete, particularly excelling in softball, exemplifying determination, teamwork, and resilience. Brianna carried that same unwavering dedication into the classroom, always approaching academics with diligence and enthusiasm.
Tonight, we honor a graduating senior whose life, accomplishments, and character echo Brianna’s remarkable qualities. This year’s recipient of the Brianna Lieneck Memorial Scholarship is Kaylin Mallon of Connetquot High School in Bohemia.
Kaylin is an exceptional student-athlete who will graduate ranked 12th in her class. She is a distinguished member of the National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, and the Foreign Language, English, and Science Honor Societies. On the athletic field, Kaylin has played varsity soccer for five years, serving as captain for two, and competed in varsity track for four years.
Kaylin’s compelling essay profoundly illustrates her strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. Facing numerous physical injuries and setbacks throughout her athletic career, including severe injuries such as a torn hamstring and a herniated disc. Kaylin chose perseverance over defeat, drawing powerful lessons from each challenge. She turned her bruises, both physical and mental, into reminders of strength and growth, reflecting a maturity and resilience beyond her years.
In the fall, Kaylin will attend the University of Kentucky, pursuing a major in Psychology and Pre-Med, continuing to embody Brianna’s legacy of courage and determination.
Congratulations, Kaylin Mallon! We are proud to award you the Brianna Lieneck Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $15,000. Your journey inspires us, and we wish you great success in your future endeavors.
