Bio
Edward J. Nitkewicz is a seasoned trial attorney who brings three decades of experience and a deep commitment to his clients to The Odierno Law Firm. Ed has dedicated most of his career to personal injury law, representing plaintiffs in general negligence, medical malpractice, and product liability matters. He understands that effective advocacy begins with genuine connection, and he never hesitates to invest himself in his clients and their fights. His work has earned him recognition from New York Super Lawyers for twelve years.
Ed’s results include a $1.8 million verdict in Nassau County for a 76-year-old patient injured by her neurosurgeon’s malpractice and a $500,000 verdict in Suffolk County for a motorist who suffered a traumatic brain injury. He tried one of the very first Child Victims Act cases in New York State and led the trial team in Rosenberg v. Merck, the first Fosamax bellwether trial against Merck & Co. He also has experience in complex commercial, estate, and appellate litigation.
When his son Edward was diagnosed with autism in 1999, Ed devoted his passion for the law to a new cause. He became a leading education law attorney, representing families in CPSE and CSE meetings, impartial hearings, and special education litigation. He has served as Vice Chair of the Long Island Chapter of Autism Speaks and as a Trustee of the South Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education, and he has helped raise more than $1,000,000 to treat and cure autism. Ed lectures frequently on special education topics, and his essays on parenting children with special needs have appeared in Exceptional Parent magazine and The Suffolk Lawyer. His community work has earned numerous honors, including the Columbia Association’s Humanitarian Award.
Ed also serves as an Administrative Law Judge for the Town of Huntington. He earned his B.S. from Wagner College, where he served as President of the National Alumni Board, and his J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, which honored him with its Alumni Public Service Award. He is admitted to practice in New York, Connecticut, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
